The Dark Side ; Side Project #9
Terrapin Beer Co.
Athens, Ga
8.50 ABV
Style: Belgian Style Strong Ale
C. Super Dark
H. Black w/ Tan Head
N. Chocolate! Alcohol-boozy
Miguel: Yes I have had this beer before, but yes I will always drink it. Terrapin needs to bring this back all year or at least as a seasonal. Heat that Terrapin? PLEASE!!! It is sweet, chocolatey and a little boozy. It doesn’t seem as chocolatey as when it was brand new and fresh, but regardless this beer has absolutely made me embrace the DARK SIDE!
Score: 4.666
The Ferm: Ahh the beer that lead me to the dark side of beers. Yep, my new found love of stouts was started by this beer as well as Wake N’ Bake from Terrapin. I love this beer! It has a really nice body. The beer offers great flavors of chocolate, hints of coffee, and malty-goodness. When I first had this beer it was my first side project, and it is still my favorite. PLEASE BRING THIS TO A SEASONAL ROTATION!!!!! It is soooo good! Keep up the good work on stouts Terrapin!

Oak Barrel Stout
Old Dominion Brewing Co.
Dover, Delaware
5.20% ABV
Style; American Stout
C: Pitch Black, Can’t see clarity
H: Black
N: Vanilla, Coffee, Smoke
Miguel; I’ve never had anything from Old Dominion before. This thing has a lot of smoke and coffee in the nose. There is some vanilla present as well. HOLY SMOKES!!! The smoke presence is very strong. There is some coffee characters to it too but overall very smokey.
Score:2.2713
The Ferm; Well this is the second beer that I have had from this brewery. I had some high hopes for this one as I heard that it is quite tasty off draft. To true experience the flavor of this beer go to a camp site, light a fire, burn a marshmallow over the flames, and then eat the burnt marshmallow. I honestly think thats where the flavor profile for this beer came from. The beer just isn’t that good taste wise, but damn does it look good! Super black with a nice brown head….if only it tasted as good as it looked. Ohh Well.

Backwoods Bastard
Founders Brewing Co.
Grand Rapids, MI
10.20% ABV
Style; Scotch Ale
C: Cloudy
H: Very Dark Red
N: Bourbon, Maple, Wood/Oak, Dark Cherries, Light Alcohol Burn
Miguel; This Scotch Bastard sting the nostrils. Strong scents of bourbon, cherries, and oak. The taste, oh the taste. Sweet malts, cherries, and caramel. Back that with the bourbon and oakiness and this is a lovely beer. Oh yah there is also a nice maple syrup like taste too. Great Job Founders!
Score; 4.5638
The Ferm; This is a quite pleasant sipper. The bourbon brings out some nice qualities throughout the entire experience. Hints of vanilla, bourbon, maple, and grain; attack the palate. Very enjoyable beer that makes me want it on pancakes in a syrup form…..yum pancakes and backwoods bastard, what a combination. I should call them Bastard Cakes!

Sch’Wheat
Sweetwater Brewing Company
Atlanta, GA
4.70% ABV
Style; American Pale Wheat
C: Clear as can be
H: Liquid Gold
N: Yeast, Grain, Acidic Citrus (lemon)
Miguel; Well Sch’Wheat water err Sweetwater brings us a wheat beer that really doesn’t live up to it’s name. The nose is barely present. The taste is slightly grainy with hints of yeast and orange. It’s very light but not enough flavor to really be refreshing on a hot summer day.
Score; 2.1113
The Ferm; Well there really isn’t much here but a Light Beer. The nose is light, the taste is light, and the body is light. Ohh yah and the alcohol volume is pretty light too. The only strong quality is that it taste a lot like water! This is just another winning example of a quality bottle of Sweetwater Beer. Of course, sarcasm is no additional charge with my blog.
