Its 10am where is our Daily Blog?

“Hey Ferm WAKE UP!, WHERE IS MY DAILY BLOG!”

Yah yah yah; Calm down people, I just got done watching the Chelsea vs Manchester United Soccer Match.  Go Blue!  While I was doing that I was working on site.

Today is  Saturday News Day, right?!?  Well not much happened this week except for a ton of April Fools Jokes from the different Brewery Companys.  Yep, I even fell for one by posting a request on BeerAdvocate.com for the Stone/BrewDog Collaboration Beer “Luciferin”.   Yep, pretty weak on my part, and I’m sure it didnt do much for my reputation on BA.  Probally just allowed people to laugh at me (pretty common).    Some of the other rumors were that Pliny the Elder is coming in cans, and that Oskar Blues is going to bottle Dale’s Pale Ale! Yah nope sorry folks it just isn’t happening.

That said the week was sort-a slow news wise.

I did update the About page today though.    Adding two sections that some readers may be interested in.  With the help of Dos (John) I was able to compile a list of all the beers that I have ever tried (sadly not review); Ferm’s Graveyard of Beer Goodness

Also after being inspired by several of my Beer Blogging Buddies (BBB’s!) I have decided to post my cellar as well; Beer’s for a Rainy Day

While I am not keen on the idea of posting my cellar, I will keep it up for those of you that like to see what I will be tasting/reviewing in the near future.  Both lists are found in the ABOUT page on the blog.

Have a great Saturday Everyone!

Ferm Out!

News Day YAY!

Alright Kiddies its news day.

A lot has been going on in the Micro-Beer world this past and there really is too much to cover full stories. So I decided I Ill just post a quick blob about a topic and post a link. If you want to read then go for it!

Alright…..lets start with a picture of a baby drinking a Rolling Rock.

Why did I just do that…I dunno, I hope you enjoyed!

Ok so REAL NEWS from this past week.

TnP Not Strong Enough?!?!; yep the crazy guys from BrewDog didn’t think that the Tactical Nuclear Penguin was strong enough, because a German brewer beat their ABV. So this week they released their Quad-IPA; Sink the Bismarck which comes in at 41% ABV. Yep I think I have some Sour Apple Pucker that is lower in ABV….pretty crazy

Bang it here for the story (thanks Beer News!); Sink the Bismarck

Stone Lovers got to watch Greg fall in love this week; not really sure if this constitutes news or not, but who cares..it was a good watch.

Flat Times for Big Beer

Yep its NEWS day again!

Ill save you the boring part of this article, which was about how Big Beer is struggling, and this is the hardest economy b/c people dont have money to waste on product.

I beg to differ. Im sure you, just like me have been effected by this current economic state. I have come to realize that if I am going to spend my hard earned money on something, it is going to be good. More Quality and Less about Quantity on the things that are pleasurable. In fact, I have found that I am happier purchasing an assorted six pack of micros than I am when I buy an 18 pack of Bud Light.

Hey Big Guys!, it isnt marketing or the economy. With more of the beer drinking community learning about different and bigger beer, we have come to want more from our beer.

If I am going to have a beer, I would take a Dogfish, MagicHat, Stone, etc. then a light lager coming off the shelf any day.

That said here is the interesting part of the article from Bloomberg Business Week;

CRAFT BEER SALES RISE 12.4%
One segment of the beer industry that has resisted the recession is craft breweries, increasingly popular for flavorful beers made in smaller batches. According to data from the Nielsen Co., craft or microbrew sales rose 12.4% in 2009.

Craft brewers are lucky that rising interest in their products has reduced the impact of the recession, says Julia Herz, craft beer program director at the Brewers Assn., a trade group for craft brewers.

Customers “want flavor, diversity, and choice,” Herz says. “That’s how craft has remained a high priority and an affordable luxury.”

Craft beers account for 5.8% of the overall beer market, according to Nielsen. The vast majority of beer sold is produced by either the MillerCoors partnership or Anheuser-Busch InBev, the company that now owns brands like Budweiser and Bud Light. According to IBISWorld, by volume, InBev controlled 49.9% of the U.S. market in 2009, while MillerCoors controlled 28%.

Would you like to Value Size that with a Beer?

Ok, so the next time you visit a Burger King dont be surprised if you get asked would you like a beer with your meal.

WHAT?

ARE WE IN HEAVEN?

SURE WE WILL HAVE A BEER WITH THAT!

Well in an attempt to win more loyal fast food eaters, Burger King will start offering Domestic Beer in a special aluminum bottle. The Beer will run you $4.25 alone or you can add it into your value meal. A Whopper combo with a beer will be $7.99.

I guess Burger King really does want you to Have It Your Way!

As of now it looks like the only beers that will be sold at the BK Bar are domestics from the big three (Bud, Miller, Coors). Although yesterday on twitter (follow us @DosBeerigos) several people were rumoring a Coors only campaign. BK did say that they would be open to other beers if it was requested by the general public.

@DogFishBeer tweeted yesterday; Dont get me wrong, don’t think any of ours would fly with fries & a whopper.

What do you think about all this craziness….Beer and a Whopper?!?!?

What do you thing about this? Comment Below!

A Beer Can is how Old?!?!

Well HOPPY BIRTHDAY to the Beer Can!
75 years ago, this month, this heavenly invention of beer carrying capacity was created.

Here is an excerpt taken from Beer Universe, one of the many AWESOME beer websites out there…

Grab a few 6-packs, get a couple friends together, and start celebrating – January 2010 marks the 75th anniversary of the beloved, the one and only, beer can.
That’s right – the concept of the beer can didn’t even exist until the 1920s, when brewers first started thinking about using metal cans for the packaging of beer. The concept took a backseat due to Prohibition, but when the restrictions were lifted in 1931, researchers got to work on finding an alternative to the traditional glass bottle.
There were a few problems that needed to be overcome. Minor assembly and manufacturing problems aside, the can needed to be strong enough to withstand the pasteurization process, which requires pressures of up to 90 psi (more than 6 times as much as atmospheric pressure). Also, the can needed an inner lining that would protect the beer inside from harmful chemical reactions. The first few attempts to find such a lining involved flour, gum, and somewhat unexpectedly – asphalt. The Gottfried Krueger Brewing Co. were the first to use the new plastic-lined beer can, in January 1934. When sales increased dramatically in just a few short months, Pabst and Anheuser-Busch followed suit, and the beer can revolution was born…….

Check out the rest over at Beer Universe.

But that leads me to a question…..what is your favorite beer out of a can?

Post your answer below, who knows maybe we will review them!
