Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti

Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti

C: Hard to see when the lights are off (beer is dark)
H: Dark as Night
N: Extremely Limited, Soft Chocolate and Roasted Malt

Kirk Diggler;
A: Roasted and chocolate malts (but very subdued), no hop/esther aromatics, I pulled a clean fresh oak aroma, but other than this, nothing stood out.
A: Pours black w/ a creamy chocolate brown head. The head is quickly dissipating, but very inviting at first pour.
F: Sweet chocolate malts upfront, no hop flavors perceived upfront, the balance is a great play between: smoky / chocolate / and coffee. Finishes with an oak / bitter hop quality.
M: The body is chewy w/ great carbonation/creamy feeling. One of the smoothes drinking beers in this style.
O: This was my first taste of something from the Yeti line and I was very impressed. I love the mouthfeel and appearance. When you see a chocolate/tan head on a beer it begs to be drank. The aromatics are pretty subdued. I would have liked to pull more from the aroma, but just as in nature, the yeti is a mysterious creature. If you manage to find one, you can try and catch it, but it’s probably gonna escape you. And when you try to tell your friends about it, they are just going to think you’re crazy until they get to try it for themselves.
Score; (4.7)

The Ferm; Ohh Yes another Chocolate Beer, but will this one live up to the taste of Southern Tier Choklat? I mean if any beer is going to be “Yeti”-like in rareity it is the Southern Tier Choklat because it taste just like chocolate. Ok, enough about another beer that I am in love with. I am here to talk about the Chocolate Yeti. Thanks to Evil Twin for bringing this one out to the tasting. I think this is a good time to remind people that “Beer People R Good People”. Anyways..
Poured super dark, and had little to no nose. Well I am not going to lie I dug right into this beer. The taste hit me upfront with some Dark Chocolate and hints of coffee. The body on this is “on-point”, great balance of thickness and carbonation, the mouth feel is perfect. The flavors blend so well together, and they get better with a bit of warmth. DAMN THIS IS GOOD. It is rare that a beer comes out with such a large distribution area that is soo damn good. Honestly to style it is up there with Choklat….I will hunt this Yeti down again and savor it again!
Score;4.799 (Same as Choklat)

Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti

Yep, I know it is late, and you my loyal readers have been itching for a beer review today like a crack addict look for their next fix. I am sorry that I made you wait. See the reason I was late was because of this guy;

Yep, thats Steve McKenna, him, Marc Ryan, and Zane Lamprey were in town last night for their comedy tour “Drinking Made Easy”. Yep and I attempted to make it look easy with my bill that I passed through legislation last night. As many of you know Florida has “No Child Left Behind”, well I created the “No Beer Left Behind” yep…bad idea. Well it wasn’t really bad till I decided I was going to being to chug Trappistes Rochefort 10. Regardless…here is your review today! Enjoy!

C. Clairty…whats that
H. Black, duahh
N. Alcohol, Light Smoke, Hints of Oak, Vanilla

El Guapo; So this was my favorite imperial stout when I first had it a long time ago. Now that I’ve had a ton of other awesome imperial stouts, this one has fallen down the list a bit. The nose has blatant oak with its vanilla notes that I love so much. This makes me happy as some other oak aged beers are so subtle that they might as well not be oaked at all *cough*oak aged unearthly*cough*. There is also some dark bitter chocolate in the nose that gets sweeter as the beer warms. The taste follows the nose and starts with a definite oak presence and some dark bitter chocolate. It is also pretty hoppy and very roasty, leaving you with a bitter finish that could be sweeter for my tastes. The body is also a bit on the thin side for an imperial stout, but I love my stouts like I love my women… THICK!!! Anyways, this is still a very nice beer but I prefer impy stouts with a bit more sweetness, less intense roastiness, and a nice full body. I will still never forget that this was my first favorite imperial stout and I will always have a special place in my heart for it… <3 xoxo
score: 3.98

The Ferm; Yep El Guapo looked at me like I had three eyes, this is my 1st time drinking this beer. He found that shocking, since I have had several of the other Yeti’s already. Needless to say I had high expectations for this beer. It pours just like all the other Yeti’s but the taste is so much cleaner then the rest. Strong hints of Dark Chocolate and actual Oak-y Flavoring! This is a real “Oak Aged” beer, or at least one that allows the oak to shine! I very much so enjoyed this beer. As a experiment El Guapo and I gave a sip to a young female (over 21) that does not drink beer…her response “Wow thats a lot of flavors, no thank you!”

Great Divide – Espresso Oak Aged Yeti

Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti

C. Clairty…whats that this is a DARK beer
H. Black Black Black
N. Coffee, alcohol, light smoke

Cerveza Chica; Let me just tell you that I am so over drinking stouts and I am very ready for the Ferm to get over his newfound love of them. This beer is everything that I hate. Let me clarify that, this is not a beer I swear I am just drinking coffee or a double shot of espresso. Talk about strong and nasty! I will probably be up all night now just from the caffeine. I could hardly drink this beer because of the disgusted look on my face. If you love coffee and dark heavy beers then this would be right up your alley. I am definitely not a fan.
Score:1.77

The Ferm; This is a thick stout! Nice hint of coffee upfront, malt balance in the middle and then, POW!!!, the coffee is back. This is a very good espresso stout. While it does have a bit of alcohol burn, I would imagine it would mellow out perfectly in a year or so. I don’t pick up the oak too much, but we will have to see as it warms up. I was surprised to see so much of this beer still on the shelf at my local shop. They only got a case and after a week there is still 6 bottles. Very good beer! Grab one if you can!

Great Divide Hibernation Ale

C(clarity). Pretty clear, but only when holding it up high

H(hue). Very dark amber

N(nose). See personal opinions

Dirty Dos: Gee, well if I wanted the taste and smell of Lodge fries, I would’ve just went there and Phaan or sexy Molly would’ve got me some in 5 minutes. I mean this beer is a decent beer and all, but it is like so weird. At one point you’re like yesssss, but then the next you’re ummmm no thanks. It’s a confusion of tastes. Don’t think I will be buying any 6 packs of this french fry, I mean beer, anytime soon. Score = 2.75

Fermentation: I believe this beer smells like one of those chocolate scratch and sniff stickers like when we were in grade school. Actually better yet, one of those chocolate smelling markers. Now that we have the smell out of the way, the taste is like a black licorice twister made love to a chocolate twister and they had a love child. Very unusual flavor that almost tastes like burnt grass. Upon initial taste this beer would make me want to go into “hibernation” until Great Divide stopped brewing this beer. The beer did get better after drinking more of it although sill not a fan favorite. Score = 2.89

Overall = 2.82
