Creme Brulee Imperial Milk Stout

Creme Brulee (Imperial Milk Stout)
Southern Tier Brewing Company
Lakewood, NY
9.20% ABV
Style: American Double/Imperial Stout

C: Super Dark
H: BLACKKKKKKKK
N: Once again dessert in a glass; Toffee, Caramel, Sugar

The Ferm; Had this bad boy off draft from The Coffee District in Delray Beach. Served in a bad ass St. Bernardus “Pimp Cup” aka chalice. Like the Kuhnhenn which was reviewed yesterday this beer is just like shoving your face in a huge dish of Creme Brulee.
The taste of the beer follows to a tee the way it smells. Southern Tier could rename this beer Toffee because that flavor overpowers everything on the initial attack. Don’t get me wrong I like Toffee but JEEEZZZZZZ. Hints of caramel and coffee linger but nothing that stands out. This would be pretty challenging to drink a whole bomber by myself. Though I think I could handle it.
Overall I felt that the Kuhnhenn Creme Brulee was better simply because it was more balanced all around. Although I would not discount the Southern Tier version. They are both VERY GOOD!

Goose Island Night Stalker

Night Stalker Imperial Stout
Goose Island
Chicago, Illinois
11.7% ABV

C: Pretty Thick Hard to Tell
H: Pours a Thick Dark Brown, Almost Black
N: Dark roasted Coffee, Chocolate, Hickory, and Pretty Heavy Alcohol

Dos; Yeah ok, so this is The Ferm’s 1,000th beer. Whatev, so what. I still hit 1,000 first so I win, punk. Anyway back to the beautifulness of this beer. Man, it’s perty. It’s basically like two different beers combined into one! The hoppy character and floral nose of an IPA, yet the bold color and heaviness of a nice stout. By the way, I’ve spent half the night drawing penises and middle fingers on this sheet of paper. The other people in this room say they are really middle toes, but I was attempting to draw fingers. Just sayin. Man, after catching the Swan on this bottle staring at me, I really want to put two Pringles together to make a duck’s mouth. Mmm, the loaded baked potato kind is so good. Whatever, drink this beer cause it’s like good and stuff. Are you “stalking” me, cause that would be super. Haha, Night Stalker….get it.
Score: 4.56

The Ferm; Yep big #1000 beer for me. I 1st would like to thank God for without him we would not have beer. Next I would like to thank my parents for not raising me on beer at all, this lead to a great wine palate which transfered to the Micro-Beer World. Finally I would like to thank all the little people that had a part in my beer quest thus far; mainly all the guest bloggers (except Dos), all my friends (once again except Dos), and my dog. Did I forget anyone!?!? LOL
Ok, let me dry my eyes since I just shed a tear or two. Now to the review.
Holy Hops! I expected something a bit different from Goose Island, as I have had a number of their beers and they always seem to throw a pleasant curve ball. Well Night Stalker followed the tradition very well. This Imperial Stout is straight forward Hoppy, and it leaves almost a hop bitterness on the back end as well. I think I am going to Dare to say that this is the Hopiest Imperial Stout I have ever had. Even more so than the Abyss. I am looking forward to how this beer will mature and settle down with time.

Southern Tier Mokah

Mokah
Southern Tier Brewing Co.
Lakewood, New York
11.00% ABV

C: Pours Clear, for a Dark Beer
H: Black
N: Tons of Chocolate and Coffee

HopScotch; Pours dark and sits black in my glass with a small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is a swirl of caramelized chocolate and espresso (more chocolate than espresso) with a suggestion of vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with laid-back carbonation. Sugary, malty, chocolaty flavor with a modest shot of espresso and a whisper of vanilla. Sweet mocha finish. Decadent. Luxurious. I would drink this one all day – every day – if I could pull it off without my liver crapping out on me in about a week and a half. World class beer!
Score: 4.3

The Ferm; Well I’m pretty sure we all remember what I thought about Choklat. If not just click HERE for the review of it.
This beer like Choklat has a strong, up front, and in your face nose. It is a perfect blend of Javah and Choklat in one beer. The nose follows straight through to the taste of this beer. It’s sexual. The mouth feel of the beer is smooth as silk and leaves a nice lining on your glass. It is a perfect sweet coffee stout. I personally could drink this year round. Buy it while it is out, since it is a limited release. It will age well till next years release.

Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS)

Kentucky Breakfast Stout
Founders Brewing Co.
Grand Rapids, MI
11.20% ABV

C: Too Dark To Tell
H: Yep, its Black
N: Toasted/Roasted Malts and Bourbon are Dominant, Light Coffee

Kirk Diggler;
A: Toasted / Roasted malts are dominant, No hop aromas, no esthers. Bourbon is especially present which combines with coffee and slight chocolate aromatics.
A: Pours black and couldn’t see through even when held to light. (Maybe I need a beer flashlight?) The head was thin and off-white and quickly dissipated.
F: As in the aroma, toasted and roasted malts are present, but the balance of this beer leans toward the coffee and bourbon. The only hops that I could possibly perceive would be in the finish which are coupled with an oak bitterness/tang.
M: To me this beer was surprisingly light in body, and I was expecting more chew. There is a slight warmth from the bourbon but not overpowering. I couldn’t perceive any creamy feeling. There was a slight astringency from the oak/bourbon/hops in the finish but is appropriate to style.
O: I really enjoyed this beer: The coffee and bourbon remind me of getting the morning coffee w/ my grandpa, and then he decided to spike it with some of his cold medicine ;) Ok, ok, I know I was 10, but he said it would put hair on my chest!!
Score; 4.3

The Ferm; Well there is no real intro for this beer, it is what it is. It is KBS. Poured dark, and smelled lovely. The Beer attacked the palate like a planned out bank robbery, actually no more like the robbery from the Oceans movies. Matt Damon, I mean the Bourbon, was really well balanced in this, not over powering all the other players. There were hints of coffee that left a nice roasty quality, and then the vanilla. Most Bourbon Barrel Beers have an off flavor of vanilla, Founders was on point with the amount of vanilla in this beer. It was just enough to get you coming back for more. Great Beer!
